The LCCB was established in 1999, beginning as an 8-member class at the LB Recreation Department and growing into a fully developed 60 member non-profit organization, the LCCB is currently listed as a class through the Irvine Valley College Emeritus Program is funded by grants and donations. The rapid growth and success of the band is a testimony to the cultural awareness of the Laguna Beach Community at large, and to the significant contributions of the early band members: local conductor Ed Peterson and musicians Dennis White, Ken Hanson, Sheryl Caverly and Niko Theris. Attracting local musical talent and adding a third experienced conductor, Pete Fournier, in 2008, the LCCB now performs over 20 concerts per year in such venues as Festival of Arts, Sawdust Festival, Art-A-Fair, Patriots Day Parade, and the popular Memorial Day concert on Main Beach’s cobblestones and boardwalk. Over the last few years, smaller ensembles have formed within the band, including a very fine Swing Band led by current band president Brian Cameron. Other small groups include a Flute Ensemble, a Dixieland Band (The 3rd Street Strutters), a Brass Quintet even a second Swing Band and all have performed locally. The band is always looking for good musicians. For more information, call: Ed Peterson, conductor, at (949) 395-3043.
